Figure/Ground Studies

  1. An equal amount of figure and ground. In this composition, I used S’s and O’s in order to give it a sense of movement. The S’s are Savoye LET typeface and the O’s are Matura MT Script Capitals. The differing thickness of the lines also gives the illusion of movement.
  2. Mostly negative space. In this composition I used two E’s and an L in the Geneva typeface.
  3. Mostly positive space. In this composition, the black is the figure and the white is the ground. Within this composition are the letters H, V, U, and L, all in the Futura typeface.
  4. This last composition is a made up of only the letter H in the Geneva typeface.

Week 1: Line Photograph

IMG_3230

This line photograph stood out to me because of the weight of the lines and the coloring technique. The line work of this print has a combination of thick and thin lines, which gives the thicker lines more weight. I also like the way that the print is colored because you can see the strokes of the brush, adding texture to the whole photo.
